LibreOffice is a powerful office suite for Linux users, just like Microsoft Office for Windows operating system users. It is free and open source and is used by millions of people around the world. It comes with rich features that enable users to maximize their use potentials.
LibreOffice 25 is the latest major release as of this article update, to be more specific the version is 25.2.3. This release comes with not so much changes but quite a number of improvements from the previous versions to make LibreOffice experience better for Linux users.
Features of LibreOffice 25 release
The following are the noted improvements in LibreOffice 25:
- UI & Theming:
- Advanced Theming System: Now, users can extensively and deeply customize the overall look of the application, including the color of different user interface elements that largely contribute to user experience. On top of this, there are also downloadable pre-built themes that enable users to instantly switch to different designs without having to design them from scratch.
- Improved Accessibility: Redesigned Accessibility Sidebar now offers much better warning and error levels, giving users multiple options that enable them to disregard certain warnings at their discretion. Moreover, UI components are now capable of reporting accessible identifiers, which significantly helps assistive technologies in their functionality and improves overall usability for users with disabilities.
- Writer (Word Processor):
- Improved Track Changes: When a tracked change is clicked on, its corresponding entry will be highlighted in the “Manage Changes” dialog box as well as in the sidebar. This feature greatly simplifies and improves the whole reviewing process, making it a lot easier for users to go through their revisions.
- Navigator Improvements: Recent improvements now enable comment tracking in the Navigator, facilitating greater user engagement and management. In addition, users are provided with the ability to delete all content of a particular type using the Navigator interface, while maintaining headings and leaving them intact in the process.
- DOCX Import Improvements: There are significant changes in how line object transformations are processed, along with improvements in font fallback mechanisms when importing DOCX files.
- Calc (Spreadsheet):
- Duplicate Records Management: A new dialog interface has been added, which allows users to selectively pick and subsequently remove any duplicate records that might be present in the system.
- Solver Enhancements: Users can now save Solver models directly in their spreadsheets for easier access and convenience. A detailed sensitivity analysis report has also been added, offering insights into the variables and results of the models.
- Function Wizard Enhancements: The Function Wizard and the Functions Sidebar deck both received considerable updates that extensively enhanced their search feature and overall user experience. These additions enable users to browse and locate functions more effectively and quickly.
- Impress & Draw (Presentation & Drawing):
- All of the Impress presentation layouts underwent an extensive and careful process of major updates, which include various recognizable features that can be seen quite distinctly in both Master Notes mode and Handout modes. Object Alignment: In the recent updates, users are now able to center objects on pages or slides in one simple step, making the process even more convenient and efficient. Windowed mode automatic repeat of slides: one can turn on the feature that causes automatic repeat of slides when in windowed presentation mode.
